How to get your hair winter ready

The weather is changing and now is a great time to prepare your hair for the harsher weather ahead. Now is a good time I think to replenish your hair. Starting with healthy hair is easier to maintain especially during the colder months. You can start by deep conditioning your hair. Here's a link on how to do it the inexpensive way. Also, please remember to switch your hair care products to more moisturizing ones as well as routine.

Things you MUST do
  • Switch your hair routine and products.
  • Use moisturizing shampoo and conditioner
  • Do lots of protective hairstyles.
  • Rinse with cold or lukewarm water this lock in the moisture and your hair will dry out less quickly.
  • Use a silk or satin scarf to tie your hair especially when you are going outside, to bed or wearing a moisture pulling material on your head. Such material includes wool.
  • Try using a dry shampoo or other methods to dry clean your hair. There are many such products on the market so, read the ingredients carefully before making your selection.
  • Wear a headgear to protect your hair from the cold and wind.
  • Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.
  • Air dry your hair or on a cool setting if you decide to use a dryer. Just like the cool water, the cool air will also sustain hair moisture.
  • I know you might be saying "HELL NO" but try to limit the amount of times you wash your hair per month. Remember there are a few methods that you may use to clean your hair without applying water and shampoo.
  • Use leave-in conditioners with natural ingredients. Avoid ingredients such as sodium laurel sulfate, mineral oil and petrolatum. If you see products containing these don't buy them because these ingredients cause your hair to get extra dry.
  • Do regular hot oil treatments. You may see a homemade recipe here.
Things you must NOT do
  • Do not use clarifying shampoo and conditioners because they strip your hair of it's natural moisture.
  • Avoid wearing moisture puling head gears. If you do line the head gear with a silk or satin scarf.
  • Do not go outside when your hair is wet it may freeze and break.
  • Limit the use of "HOT" items like (blow) dryers and curling irons.
  • Avoid washing your hair with hot water use lukewarm or cool water instead.
  • Do not sleep with your hair wet. I'm a culprit of this. Sleeping with your hair wet can make you sick as well it can damage the ends of your hair especially if you have natural in it's loose state or even processed hair.
How ready is your hair for the winter months? How do you prepare your hair for the colder months? What are some things you always try and to and stay away from doing? I look forward to you sharing your winter hair care tips. Please remember to leave your comments below. Hope these tips were helpful.

What a Plait: A very edgy lock updo

Happy Monday Barbies and Kens. Hope you all had a restful weekend. My weekend was a little busy and productive. I got a chance to wash my hair and did a protective hairstyle.
Recently, I have not been doing the plaits as a protective style because it makes my hair weaken and prone to breakage. I usually do the two strand twist. You must be wondering if that's the case then why did I do it. I have been getting tons of requests for a hairstyle I did in December. It was titled Bang Bang Bang and was featured on my blog on December 31, 2010 .

Anyhoo, I wanted to show you guys that you can style your locks no matter what. I am sporting this updo that I created with my protective plaits. This style pulls on a number of styling techniques. I have flat twist, two strand twist, rolling and tucking and a pompadour.

I made a YouTube video to make achieving this hairstyle easier. Hope the steps were clear.
This fall, there are so many trends and I decided to incorporate a few into today's outfit to complete my hairstyle.

I'm wear a floral shear top from Free People, multicoloured glittler long skirt and large stone rng from Forever21, bell bottom jeans The GAP, navy cuff from Mango, peep toe pumps from Steve Madden, pink and turquoise clutch from Liz Clairborne and self made bow tie.

Please remember to be a Jungle Barbie friend or a subscriber of my YouTube channel to be considered for the my memories.com software. The giveaway ends tomorrow. Good luck all.

Lock Extensions

Today's post is about lock extensions. I have been getting lots of questions about how I started my locks and what I recommend for someone who wants to get locks. I started with lock extensions not the kind shown here. What I had was the regular braids with the rasta braids. The above method is really good because it is a great camouflage of the actual locks.

Who is this good for?
  • If you want to have your locks very neat and want to skip the messy baby phase? then, this is for you.
  • If you are unsure as to whether you want to go ahead with locking your hair you can war this hairstyle temporarily. If you don't like it then, you can always remove it and have your hair to sport.
  • If you have broken locks and wan to mend them this is also great for that too.
  • If you want to add length to your locks then you may add extensions to the end using this method.
Is this something that you would do to your hair? When or why would you use it?

Here is a video that will answer a few more of your questions.
Hope the above video was helpful. Please leave your comments in the box below and subscribe to get trendy hairstyles and useful hair tips.

Mymemories.com sells the My Memories Suite software and they also have the mymemories store where you can buy or download for free decorative enhancements and digital papers, that you can add to your pictures and or videos to make them extra memorable.

Pros
  • Download instructions were very clear.
  • Download and installation process was  very fast.

Roll out: A lock updo in honor of Summer

Happy Monday Barbies and Kens. Hope you all had a great weekend. I didn't as I did not accomplish all I said I wanted to achieve. Anyway, I will just have a lot to do this week. No one to blame but myself.
Today's hairstyle is an updo with lots of hair techniques going on. I have flat twists, two strand twists, rolling and tucking. I did this hairstyle today because after today the weather will change and we will be heading into fall/winter. For the colder weather I will need to do lots of protective styles as well as wear my hair down for so amount of warmth.

I completed today's hairstyle by wearing a white linen top from Mango, button earring from ANAP, crystal hoops by Jungle Barbie, coral leggings and Gold pumps from Zara and mustard clutch from Forever21.
Goodbye summer I will miss you a bit. Hello fall and winter please be mild this year. Thank you in advance a warm blooded island girl.

Thank you for watching. Please leave your comments below and subscribe to the blog to get trendy hairstyle and haircare tips. Also, follow Jungle Barbie on twitter @junglebarbie1.
Tomorrow I will be having a giveaway so please keep an eye out for that. Until tomorrow, stay fab and be creative.

Fall In Place: A chic lock updo

TGIF. Happy Friday Barbies and Kens. I am doing the running man because I am excited for this 3 day weekend. I will be creating some new and trendy hairstyles. What will you be doing?

Today's hairstyle was inspired by a fall outfit I put together. The hairstyle features rolls falling to the front with some tucking going on.

I like this hairstyle because it's fun and on the edgy side. How would you describe this hairstyle? How would you wear it?

I opted for a nerdy chic look with this hairstyle. I accentuate my hairstyle by using my Sunset and Caribbean Collection (Curaco) Sleek palette to create a green smoky eye and their Aruba blush which I am loving. I do not usually rave over make up so you know they are definitely worth buying.

To complete my look I wore a floral skirt, glasses, belt and tank from Forever21, mesh ankle socks from Tutuana, H&M oxfords and jacket, ANAP button earrings, Charlotte Russe leaf bangle and a Long Champ tote.

Have a great weekend and be safe. Thank you for reading. Please remember to leave your comments below and subscribe to get trendy hairstyles and useful hair care tips.
Until Monday, stay fab and be creative.
Peace,
Syn
