Lock 101 Series # 5: How do you know when it's time to trim your Lock

Source
Locks like any other hairstyles has it signs notifying  when something is wrong. With that being said, I am posing this question to you "how do you know when it's time to trim your locks?"
I bet most people with locks have never ever thought about this. Here are a few signs that indicate that you may need to cut or trim your locks;

1) Split ends
Yes lock wearers do experience split ends. This is even more noticeable than any other hair type. Most times you can see the lock actually splitting while sometimes you have to look carefully to actually see it. When this happens, it's best to trim your hair to get rid of the old damaged ends.

2) Hair getting too heavy and pulling your root/ straining your neck
When your hair gets too long it gets very heavy as well. This will tug on your roots and cause hair thinning at the roots which will in turn lead to hair breakage from the root. Long locks can also cause a strain on the neck which can lead to problem which can affect your health. In these cases trimming is the best option.

3) Ends breaking
This is a very obvious indication that you need to treat or trim your locks. Usually when this happens it is better to trim the damaged hair and allow your hair to grow a fresh.

4) Dry frizzy ends
This might be from lack of moisture, over exposure to heat, lack of grooming or your ends are too old. As with breaking ends, when you are experiencing dry frizzy ends, it is best to cut off those dry damaged ends. This will make way for healthy hair to grow.

5) Hair starts thinning
If your ends starts to thin severely it is best to trim them because they will eventually break. Depending on the extent, you can save it by sewing to mend the lock. To learn more about how you can mend your locks, you may read the post here.

Hope this was helpful. If you have any questions please leave them in the comment box below or you can email me at synethiae@gmail.com. Thank you for reading. Until tomorrow, stay fab and be creative.
XOXO,
Syn
